A fresh inflow of $4.963 million of foreign portfolio investment
was recorded at the country's equity market during the outgoing
week ended July 24, 2009. This was the sixth week in a row in
which the offshore investors remained net buyers of shares at
the local equity market, analysts said. During the last 6 weeks,
foreigners were net buyers of $36.9 million worth of shares.

Promotion and Protection Act: MoI formulating law for investors’
protection
Ministry of Investment is planning to give the country a unique
legislation-Investment Promotion and Protection Act-to protect
local as well as international investors against political victimisation
and ensuring continuity of economic policies in the country, Waqar
Ahmed Khan told. The act of parliament would require the future
government to honor in letter and spirit the investment agreements
as well as Memorandum of Understandings signed by the government
of Pakistan.

and Malaysian foreign ministers focus on strengthening ties at
ARF meeting
Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday met Malaysian
Foreign Minister Datuk Anifah Hj. Aman on the margins of 16th
ARF Ministerial Meeting in Phuket, Thailand, and focused on strengthening
economic partnership between the two countries. Both sides stressed
to broaden economic co-operation to include joint ventures in
mutually identified fields.

Pakistan
should be used as gateway for world market'
Ambassador of Tajikistan, Zubaydov Zubaydullo Najotovich, on Friday
reiterated that Pakistan is a gateway to the world and Central
Asian States, which are in a dire need of access to the world
through the port of Pakistan. The ambassador expressed these views
during a meeting with the Federal Minister for Industries and
Production, Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo, here today. During discussion
he also pointed out that Pakistan was also looking to import Tajik
power to its Northern Areas as Tajikistan has huge hydropower
potentials and cheapest electricity in the world.
