FoDP
meeting: Gilani urges EU to deliver on pledges;
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has urged the European
Union countries to deliver on their pledges made during the Friends
of Democratic Pakistan (FoDP) ministerial meeting in Tokyo. The
Prime Minister was talking to European Union's high representative
and foreign policy chief Javier Solana, who called on him at the
Prime Minister's House, Islamabad.

FBR
announces 10-year tax holiday for projects in SEZs;
Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Monday announced 10-year tax
holiday for corporate zone developers who would undertake projects
in the Special Economic Zones (SEZs). This exemption would be
applicable on income derived by corporate zone developers for
projects in the Special Economic Zones in Pakistan. The aim of
the decision is to attract more companies of international repute
for industrial zones development so that international quality
infrastructure is made available and all required facilities for
investors is ensured in the country.

Afghan-Pak
Transit Trade Agreement: Pakistan may be linked to Tajikistan;
Pakistan may have access to Tajikistan, through Afghanistan, under
Transit Trade Agreement (TTA) with the government of Afghanistan
tto be signed by December 2009. The government of Pakistan is
negotiating Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement.

power import from Tajikistan under process;
Tajik Minister for Energy and Industry Gul Sherali said on Monday
Tajikistan was expediting the process for exporting 1,000MW electricity
to Pakistan under CASA-1000 project.

EU
urged to give greater market access to Pakistani products;
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has urged the European Union
to give greater access to Pakistani products to European markets
so that the trade relations between Pakistan and European countries
flourish rapidly. "We have demanded of the European Union
to give greater market access to Pakistani products to improve
Pak-EU trade relations and to help strengthen Pak economy that
is suffering on account of terrorism," the Foreign Minister
said while addressing a joint press conference along with visiting
High Representative of the European Union, Javier Solana. The
two leaders were addressing the media after their talks in Islamabad.

South
African trade team arrives in Pakistan;
A trade delegation from South Africa comprising 18 leading businessmen
has arrived Karachi to negotiate deals with Pakistani exporters
of textiles, pharmaceutical, building material and sports goods
during its stay here from July 20 to 25. Trade Development Authority
of Pakistan (TDAP) has organized this programme.

Condition
to finance Bhasha dam: ADB asks government to tax water used for
irrigation;
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has sought government commitment
to tax water used for irrigation, prior to release of funds for
the construction of Diamer Bhasha dam. ADB is of the view that
water to be stored in the dam, if used for irrigation of agriculture
land, should be taxed.

Modern
technology must for agri-development;
Chairman Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) Dr. Zafar
Altaf has stressed the need to introduce modern agricultural technology
among small farmers for agricultural development in the country.
In an interview, Dr. Zafar Altaf said that next agricultural development
era would base on the agricultural yields of farmers of Balochistan
and Sindh provinces.
