Saarc
CCI team meets Zardari, seeks diplomatic status;
President, Saarc CCI, Tariq Sayeed called on President Asif Ali
Zardari, at President's Secretariat along with his deputy Iftikhar
Ali Malik and Secretary General Iqbal Tabish. Sayeed requested
the President to grant diplomatic status to Saarc CCI and extend
support to construct Saarc CCI building projects, which in principle
was agreed by the President.

commits $1.7bn to cope with crisis impact;
The World Bank committed a record amount of $1.7 billion in fiscal
year 2009 (FY09) to help Pakistan cope with the impact of global
economic crisis, the bank said. This represents an increase of
$1.064 billion over FY08. Pakistan has faced daunting challenges
over the past year, including a domestic macroeconomic crisis,
a global recession, political turmoil and serious security challenges,
said Yusupha Crookes, World Bank Country Director for Pakistan.

Power
subsidy to persist, says Tareen: Privatization not an anti-masses
process’ ‘Even if IMF rejects govt. will not let the nation down’;
Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance and Economic Affairs, Shaukat
Tareen said that government will press for its demand for continuation
of subsidy during its meeting with International Monetary Fund
(IMF) adding if this demand is not accepted government will pay
subsidy out of its own pocket.
He was addressing a conference entitled "Privatization under
Public-Private Sector Partnership" which was organized by
Privatization Commission.

Pakistan
sells 15,000T corn as Indian supplies dry up;
Pakistan sold around 15,000 tons of corn this week mainly to Malaysia
as supplies from India dried up, while Asian wheat importers bought
20,000 tons of Black Sea wheat on competitive prices and tight
Australia supplies.
