Qatar
to start gas supply from November;
Federal Minister for Investment, Senator Waqar Ahmad Khan said
that Qatar would start providing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to Pakistan by November this year.
He was addressing a press briefing at Islamabad after returning
from a visit to China, Hong Kong and Qatar.

Foreign
investors to get legal cover;
Federal Minister for Investment Senator Waqar Ahmad Khan said
the government would provide legal cover to the foreign investors
in the country and a bill would soon be moved in the parliament
for the purpose. Addressing the participants of the launching
ceremony of wi-tribe, a wireless broadband service, the Minister
said the step reflected confidence in the government’s investment
policy.

President
seeks help against economic woes;
President Asif Ali Zardari said the international community needs
to recognize the economic problems of Pakistan created by the
war against terror and should step forward to address them in
order to pursue the fight against militancy to its logical conclusion.
He was talking to David Lipton, Senior Director for International
Economics of the US National Security Council who called on him
at the Presidency, Islamabad.

Govt
cognizant of inflation: Hina Rabbani;
Minister of State for Finance Ms Hina Rabbani Khar assured the
house that the government was cognizant of inflation in the country
and through various steps has brought it down from 25 percent
to 14 percent. Speaking in the National Assembly on a Calling
Attention Notice, she vowed to bring the inflation in the next
month to single digit. “It is because of the steps that the government
has taken that the inflation has come down,” she added.

Japan
for enhancing trade with Pakistan;
Japan and Pakistan have always enjoyed good friendly relations,
said Consul General of Japan in Karachi, Akinori Wada. Addressing
the members of the Karachi Association of Trade
and Industry (KATI) he stated that Japan is interested in further
strengthening its ties with Pakistan.

Pakistan’s
exports to UK cross $1bn;
Pakistan’s exports to the UK have crossed $1 billion this year
which is for the first time in history. With growth rate of 16.29
per cent during the period July 2008-April 2009, Pakistan has
seen all-time high exports to the UK, which has been one of Pakistan’s
top three export markets in the world for the last four years,
from 2005-06 through 2008-09.

ROZs
to help boost exports to US;
The establishment of Reconstruction Opportunity Zones (ROZ) will
change the fate of FATA, NWFP and Balochistan, as industrial activity
there will help increase exports to the US. These views were expressed
by Pak-USA Business Council Regional Director Rehmatullah Javed
at a dinner hosted in honour of US Consulate Principal Officer
Bryan D Hunt.

Pakistan,
Tunisia to enhance bilateral trade;
Anjum Nisar, President KCCI and Mourad Bourehla, Ambassador of
the Republic of Tunisia have jointly stated that Pakistan-Tunisia
Bi-lateral trade must be enhanced due to huge potential market.
This was said in a meeting held at Karachi Chamber of Commerce
& Industry.

Pak
to produce 9,700MW renewable power by 2030;
Federal Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervez Ashraf said
Pakistan had set high targets for itself including renewable energies
including 5 percent (approximately 9,700 MW) of the electricity
generation on grid by year 2030 and the replacement of 10 percent
diesel with bio-diesel by year 2025.
